Business/Ed Pathways Students Visit UMF

WRVC is partnering with Bridge Academy Maine to support students in gaining up to 24 college credits while still in high school! Through this partnership, Bridge Academy makes opportunities for WRVC students possible. This week, thanks to Bridge Academy, two WRVC programs, Business Education and Education Pathways, visited the University of Maine at Farmington and Central Maine Community College.

The Business students enjoyed touring the campus, visiting classrooms, performing arts spaces, and a residence hall. They then met with Business Professors Wendy Harper and Clyde Mitchell to learn about UMF’s Business program, including pathways in Outdoor Recreation Business Administration (ORBA) and Business Psychology.

Our Education Pathway students, who are enrolled in PSY225: Child and Adolescent Development with Mrs. Bruns at WRVC, were able to sit in on this class with college students who take the same course at UMF. This class is overseen by Professor Dr. Rhonda Jamison. It was a great opportunity for our students to experience a live college class and interact with UMF professors and students.

Following the visit to UMF, both programs visited CMCC to speak with professors and advisors in the Business and Early Childhood departments. Both programs have dual enrollment classes and credits with CMCC. Our Business Education students have dual enrollment opportunities in six Business foundation courses, including Understanding Business, Computer Applications, Financial Accounting, and Marketing. Education Pathways has dual enrollment for EDU 284: Guidance and Self-Regulation and ECE 100: Intro to Early Childhood Education, taught by Professor Tia Zukowski.

This was an incredible experience for WRVC students, and we appreciate the partnership we have with Bridge Academy Maine for making these opportunities possible. We also appreciate the UMF and CMCC staff for welcoming our students and teachers to their campuses. A final thank-you goes out to Mrs. Boody-Billings and Mrs. Bruns for supporting these wonderful post-secondary learning opportunities.
