Good Morning Congin Cougar Families,
Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is staying warm and safe with all of the recent snow that we have been getting.
Here are some updates for this week:
It's Wednesday, so that means it's an early release day! Students will be released at 2:30 today!
Today is also Congin Day at Applebees in South Portland! 15% of your purchase will be donated to our Congin PTO when you show the attached flyer!
On Monday, we celebrated our work with mindfulness at a whole-school assembly! We found out that we had achieved 1,582 mindful minutes. and we will be celebrating with a whole-school PJ day on Friday.
We also rolled out our new theme of Healthy Hearts for the month of February. Students learned how we can keep ourselves healthy, especially during the Winter. Students are earning healthy hearts at home and at school, and the students are off to a great start!
Just a reminder that when we have a two hour delay, students can start getting dropped off at 10:25, and students need to be at school by 10:40. PLEASE do not just drop your student off at the front of the building or on the playground, as we are not responsible for students until 10:25. Thank you for your attention to this.
Continue to spread the word about our Kindergarten Orientation on February 27th at 6pm at Congin! Kindergarten screening will also be taking place on March 27th and 28th, which means that our current kindergarten students will
NOT
have school on those days.
Girls on the Run sign-ups have opened for 3rd and 4th grade girls. I have attached a flyer with more information and the link to sign up.
Bikes for Books is still taking place. Every time a student reads 5 books or 100 pages, they can turn in a sheet to be entered for a chance to win a bike! We will be taking these forms until 4/28!
I know that there has been some community conversation around the Community Center being unsafe for students and families to walk to. To clarify, no one should be parking at the Community Center if you are picking up or dropping off your child in a vehicle. It's our protocol that families wait at the Little League Field, and once buses have left our campus, we have parent pick up drive to our gym doors located on the left side of the building. Walkers are considered those who walk to and from school, and are not in a car. Walkers therefore get picked up at the front of the building. Please let me know if you have any questions about this, and I hope this clarifies our procedure moving forward.
I am very excited to announce that we have 5 teachers nominated to Cumberland County Teacher of the Year! We do a nomination from our school where the teachers nominate one of our own, and we have nominated Chelsea Beliveau! Additional nominations came from parents, and we have Kim Walls, Jen Bertino, Celina Marden, and Mary-Ellen Doherty all nominated! We have amazing teachers at Congin, and it is exciting for them to be recognized for all of their hard work!
It's a great day to be a cougar!
Sincerely,
Marc Bisson
